The shortcut icons in Windows Vista and 7 have large arrows on them. If you are worried about the look of your desktop, you may not want to see the ugly arrows. There have been several registry hacks to do this, but this stand alone software version is one of the most stable around.
Note: This Software was tested on Windows XP, Vista and 7. This works perfectly in both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of Windows.
Here are some before and after pictures so you’ll know what we are talking about and what to expect:
Default with Arrow:
As we mentioned you will need a small piece of software called the 'Ultimate Windows Tweaker'.
You can download it here. It has other options to do other things in Windows, but in this case we are just looking at its ability to remove the arrows from shortcuts.
The software is stand alone and needs no installation. Just extract the zip file and Launch the 'Ultimate Windows Tweaker' exe file.
When the program launches, on the left side of the screen click on 'Additional Tweaks.
On the next screen tick the box 'Remove arrows from Shortcut Icons'.
Then click Apply and close.
You will need to Log off and back on for the changes to take effect.
Repeat the operation above un-ticking the 'Remove arrows from Shortcut Icons' if you deside to restore the icon arrows.
