Everyone has been at their computer when the Windows Update dialog pops up and tells us to reboot the computer. Postponing it just lets it come back later. There is a registry hack to prevent this reboot while you are logged in.
Open up regedit through the start menu search box or run dialog, and navigate down to the following key, creating new keys if they donít exist on your system.
Then create a new 32-bit DWORD value in the right pane named NoAutoRebootWithLoggedOnUsers and give it a value of 1 to prevent automatic reboot while users are logged on. Delete the value to return things back to the way they were.
We have a registry hack available to do the above for you. Just download the file and unzip it. Click on the WindowsupdateNoAutoReboot.reg to disable the reboot and WindowUpdateEnableAutoReboot.reg to re-enable it.
You can download the file here.
