Enable Or Disable Windows Automatic Updates From The Command Line In All Windows Versions



We can enable or disable Windows automatic updates from command line using the below commands.

To turn off Auto Updates enter this command.
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
The command executed at the command prompt:

Turn Off Auto Updates From CMD Prompt

To turn Auto Updates back on issue the command as below.
As you can see to enable automatic updates we need to set the registry value to 0 in the command.
reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f

Turn On Auto Updates From CMD Prompt

If you want to download Auto updates but not install them till the user acts on it then you can set the registry value to 3 as below.

reg add "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\Auto Update" /v AUOptions /t REG_DWORD /d 3 /f
