Microsoft Windows Tips And Tricks!

Create A Shortcut For Shutdown And Restart Computer in Windows XP, Vista, 7 And 8

This tip has been around for quite a while, and probably used alot by advanced geeks reading this article. To get started just follow the example below.

First right-click on the desktop, choose New and then Shortcut.

Create Shutdown Shortcut 1

In the shortcut location textbox, you’ll need to enter the correct command, which is listed for you below.
Shutdown Computer:
Shutdown.exe -s -t 00

Create Shutdown Shortcut 2

When you’ve clicked next on the above dialog, you’ll be asked to name the shortcut. Probably best to name it Shutdown Computer.

Create Shutdown Shortcut 3

After you click Finish, you should now have a new icon that you can double-click to immediately shutdown your computer.

Create Shutdown Shortcut 5

The default icon is rather ugly, and if you want to have separate shortcuts for each function you might want to change the icon. Right-click on the icon and choose properties.

Create Shutdown Shortcut 4

Click the Change Icon button, and then you can pick from the available icons in the system, or you can use the Browse button to pick an icon you created or one you downloaded off the web.

Create Shutdown Shortcut 6

Create Shutdown Shortcut 7

The Restart shortcut is made the same way as above except in step 2 above in the location textbox you would type 'Shutdown.exe -r -t 00' to restart the computer.

Thanks for visting
